Recipe :: Crock Pot Pulled Pork

There is nothing like a GREAT pulled pork sandwich. For those of us without smokers, we have to use our crock pots instead to slow cook some fabulous pulled pork. Hopefully my pictures will help guide you if you're a newbie. {p.s. we love cooking newbies!}

This is SO easy and your family, friends, colleagues will love you! Essentially create a little recipe that you like by expanding off of this one. Pulled pork is a super forgiving meal. If you like spice, add some hot peppers, if you like more mustard... throw in a bit more. Personally, I'm an onion kind of gal, so you'll see I added some raw onion to our rub. You get the idea!

Pulled Pork :: Crock Pot Style


1med onion diced
3 cloves garlic {grated or minced}
2 tbsp yellow mustard
1/4 cup Grill Mates Sweet & Smoky Rub {or more} - you can make your own out of paprika, onion powder, sugar, pepper, salt etc.
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup orange juice

2.5 lb of pork butt {if larger pork shoulder/butt - just increase the recipe} - p.s. ours was boneless this time.


Rinse and pat your pork butt/should dry. Season with salt and pepper.

Dice your pepper and grate or mince your garlic.

Grab a medium bowl, incorporate your brown sugar, mustard, "rub concoction of your choice," garlic, onion and mix well.

Slather pork with your onion mixture. Add 1/2 cup of OJ {you can sub water or chicken stock} to the bottom of the crock pot {this prevents burning}.

Cover, set low for 8 hours, or high for 6 hours. Once the pork is fork tender and pulls away easily, it's done! Remove pork to a large bowl. Shred your pork with your fingers {after it cools} or with a fork if it's still super hot! Add 1-2 cups of your cooking liquid to your shredded pork mixture. Mix well.

Serve on rolls with bbq sauce. Our favorite way is with a little coleslaw for crunch on the roll!

If you have leftovers... pulled pork is great on pizza, breakfast burritos or by the forkful!
